Shoal Terms of Service
Last updated: June 27, 2026
Please read these terms before using Shoal. By installing or using Shoal, you agree to them.
1. Acceptance
Using Shoal means you accept these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please uninstall the package.
2. License
Shoal is open-source software released under the MIT License. You are free to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the software, subject to the MIT License terms. The full license text is included in the package and in the source repository.
3. Permitted use
You may use Shoal for any lawful purpose - personal projects, commercial work, internal tooling, or integration into other software. The MIT License imposes no restrictions on use beyond attribution.
4. Prohibited use
You may not:
- Use Shoal in a way that violates the terms of service of the Jira instance it is connecting to
- Use Shoal to abuse or exceed Jira's API rate limits in a manner that causes harm to other users
- Remove or obscure the copyright notices required by the MIT License when redistributing the software
5. Your data
Shoal runs entirely on your local machine. It reads and writes data directly to your Jira instance using credentials you provide. No issue data, credentials, or usage information is transmitted to Aquarium Apps. Aquarium Apps does not operate any servers, has no access to your data, and makes no claim over it.
Your credentials are your responsibility. Store API tokens and personal access tokens securely and rotate them if you suspect they have been compromised.
6. Warranty disclaimer
Shoal is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. This is standard MIT License language - use Shoal at your own risk. In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the software or its use.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Aquarium Apps' total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to Shoal or these terms is zero. Shoal is free software and no payment is made, so no payment-based liability cap applies. Aquarium Apps is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages of any kind.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved in a court of competent jurisdiction in the United States.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will post changes at aquariumapps.io/shoal/terms. Because Shoal is open-source and free, there is no billing relationship - you are never obligated to accept updated terms to continue using the version you have installed.
